Launceston businesswoman
Vivienne Gale to contest Rosevears
Launceston businesswoman Vivienne Gale is making another bid to win a seat in the Upper House.
Ms Gale will stand as independent for Rosevears at the May 2020 election.
She stood for the seat of Mersey in 2015.
Ms Gale is a full-time carer for her husband, an incomplete quadriplegic, and is currently studying a masters of laws at the Australian National University.
"I intend to serve by applying my skills and qualifications, acquired through legal and private enterprise to firstly listen to the Rosevears electorate and secondly to negotiate and review legislation in the Legislative Council to achieve the best outcomes for this community.," Ms Gale said.
"I have a strong social conscience and my strength is talking to people and bringing them together to produce effective change.
"My approach is considered, consultative and collaborative."
Ms Gale, who lives in East Launceston just a few blocks from the Rosevears electorate and owns Launceston Self Srorage, said she believed the poor state of the Tamar River and parts of the West Tamar Highway were important issues for Rosevears' voters.
"We can make the Tamar better and we have to be aware of the very fragile river ecosystem," she said.
"Road safety is also an important issue on parts of the West Tamar because we've had two cyclists' deaths."
Ms Gale also highlighted funding for the Launceston General Hospital and problems with Centrelink and the NDIS as vital issues she was concerned about.
She said she stood for Mersey at the last minute and despite not winning was pleased with her vote.
"It was quite rushed so I hope to have more time and do a better job in Rosevears," Ms Gale said.
Ms Gale is on the committee of the QVMAG Arts Foundation and Festivale.
